Jury Duty Update

This is my update as of 12:45pm.

At 11:00am my name was called, along with about 19 other people. We were told what judge we would be assigned to and to have a seat and the bailiff would be back to get us. About 30 minutes later they called another group of people, told them what judge and then told them to go to lunch and be back at 1pm. A few minutes later they called our group and told us to go to lunch and be back. (I am back).

I want to set the record straight, I am not complaining about doing this. I am lucky in that my employer (the good old government) will pay me while I am here. I believe it is our civic duty and hope that IF I ever have to have a jury that those peers of mine will feel privileged to be there judging me. If you ever get the chance to do this, you should. But I like to figure out puzzles and solve problems.

I also just happen to be reading Randy Pausch's The Last Lecture and at lunch I read section 54 that talked about Jury Duty. Ok Randy, I get it. H says that we all believe we have the right to a jury trial but go to great lengths to get out of it.

It is almost 1pm so I better close down for now.

I did get good news while I was here. My Airman (Shay) has passed her final exam (I had no doubt) and all she has left is to finish her section of clinicals and then to outprocess and graduate on Sep 23rd. These kids are SO READY to get out of school.

Bye for now.

I've been called for jury duty and interviewed for a trial, but not picked. I was glad to go because I've always been interested in the process and it was, as you say, a lot of sitting and waiting, but you learn a lot about people, especially those willing to do jury duty, by watching and listening and I've always been a people watcher.

Congrats to Shay on her upcoming graduation.

I think Jury duty would be kind of fun if you werent missing out on things at home. I am excited to see if you get picked!

I have done my civic duty too and thank you for your service :)

I didn't get picked to actually witness a trial. I think David did though. How cool is that? I hope the rest of your day went well!

You are also lucky to have a laptop to take! I just read magazines and talked LOL.

CONGRATULATIONS SHAY!! Yippee! Are we not so darn proud of her????

Congrats to your daughter! Woo-Hoo!
Thank you for your civic service. I have been part of a jury, which I had single handedly dead-locked...
I spoke my piece and the entire panel swayed. It is all about truth, about being true to yourself...don't cave in simply because it is simple. Rejoice in our system, it may be flawed, but it is ours!

Hip Hip Hooray for Shay!!!
And three cheers for you. But I am telling you, use my little secret if you really want to get out of it!!!

It could be a good lesson in government/justice system for Anna to come sit in on the trial, get her out of school to come watch!! Then you could keep an eye on her as well!!! Now the dogs on the other hand might be a little difficult to sneak them in!!!

I hope it all works out well for you and can't wait to hear "the rest of the story". I'm Lisa J and good night!
